EBTKS - Guest Designer

I'm so excited to be hanging out with the EBTKS girls today as a Guest Designer! Every month on the 15th they have a sketch challenge, and on the 30th there is an around the house challenge.

Today is super fun because it's an around the house item that we're taking our inspiration from!

Can you guess how I was inspired by this awesome purse?!

First it was the purse itself! I pulled out my Well Behaved set from Skipping Stones Design to stamp the purse and shoes, and the sentiment - You can never have too many shoes, purses or good friends. Then I went to the colors and threw in some black, white, red, blue and yellow. Notice the "brads" on the bottom of the purse corners? I repeated that element along the bottom of my card, and even added a fun shoe charm to mimic the charm on the purse zipper.

This was such a great challenge and was so fun! Make sure you check out the EBTKS DT and their fabby creations!

PS: SSD is doing a Word of Mouth contest where you can win up to $150 worth of SSD merchandise for you, and $150 for a friend! Just make sure you put in the comments that I referred you. ;) But then don't stop there! Tell your friends so they can enter your name and INCREASE your chances of winning!

$300 of SSD merchandise!

You heard that right! You can win $150 for you and $150 for a friend if you tell them about our "Word of Mouth" contest!

Take a look at this post HERE to find out how to enter. It's as simple as leaving your name, how you heard about SSD, and the friend that told you about it. Then TELL YOUR FRIENDS so they can leave a comment with your name as referring them and increase your chances of winning!
Also, you can find out how you can help us reach our $1000 goal to donate this month to the Komen foundation!
EVERY single stamp set sold NOW through Sunday night at midnight will be $3 more donated to the Komen foundation.
So what are you waiting for?!

Creeping By - SSD #44

It's time for another SSD Sketch Tuesday! We are so very thrilled to have Ashley Cannon Newell as our Guest Sketch Artist this month, and here is our sketch #44 - crazy to think we are almost at 50!

This week the DT is using a set called Halloweenie, one of the very first SSD sets ever released! I had sooooo much fun with this sketch!

The background is fabric, and I used Therm-o-web to adhere it to cardstock to make it stiffer to attach to my card base. (Told you it would work Laci - love ya sis!) After that I stamped the images and then once the broom was in place with glue dots I added the spiders string to the broom handle. The Boo sentiment was stamped on the ribbon with StazOn and the banner was hand strung. Getting excited for Halloween! ;)

Supplies
CS: Basic Black
DSP: Imaginisce
Ink: Stazon Black, Pumpkin Pie
Stamps: Halloweenie
Misc: Olive grosgrain ribbon, raffia, skewer, DMC floss, black buttons

C2P September Layouts!

Here are some more layouts I created with the September Commit 2 Paper kit! On the 1st I'll show you the October kit, which will be so fun. I can't wait to play this weekend!

I absolutely loved September's kit, but didn't have a ton of time to play with it. I'd received my kit right before we went on vacation, and then we came home to leave for Vegas so I only had a couple days to really play. I still have a ton left over even after 5 layouts and 2 cards so I'll be sure to share more layouts with this kit!

These are another two layouts that are my favorites with this kit.

This is my sister Laci with the kids in 2007 when we visited them in Oregon for Thanksgiving that year. Laci and her husband Josh moved to Florida last year so it was a blast visiting my whole family when we went last month. I miss them all so much, and this picture brings back lots of fun memories! (This is for Laci - JOEY!, race car beds, bzzzraahhhh! That sums up our Thanksgiving weekend with so many inside jokes, love you sis!)

Loved this striped paper in the kit and it just reminded me so much of a flag that I had to do it! This was at the parade and if you can't tell Brady had a blast! ;) He has these colored hair gels and it was sooooo hot that year (08 I believe) that his gel was literally dripping off his head! We of course thought it was hilarious! Super easy clean up btw and Brady loves having "colored" hair that washes out at the end of the day.

Tomorrow is a new sketch challenge for Skipping Stones Design, you won't want to miss it!

Good Reads....

Just updated my Good Reads list of books I read over the summer. So not hitting my 50 books this year unless I do some serious reading over the next few months as I've only ready 17 books this year! Last year I read 69 books...crazy! That was on average a book a week, plus some. Where did I find the time? (Oh right, I listened to a lot of audio books, ha)

I read a little bit of everything, so if you'd ever like to see what I'm reading, or get an idea for recommendations, you can visit my "Read" bookshelf here, or click the widget on the bottom right hand side. I think I have enough recs to last me a year, but if you've recently read an outstanding book leave me a comment so I can take a look!

To Cheer You

This is the beginning of several posts today! :)
(Scroll down for three more posts)

Skipping Stones Design is sponsoring the current Embellish challenge and you know I love SSD stamps! The challenge ironically enough is so similiar to a card I made a few weeks ago on 9/6 (yellow, black, gray and white with background stamps) and you can see that card here, too fun! :)

Well I figured I better make a new one, but I think I like my older one better, haha! I used Timeless Textures for the background music notes, added to the base of the top note die some flowers from Dandelion Dreams, and finished it off with some glittery butterflies from Always Here along with the beautiful sentiment also from Always Here.

Supplies
CS:
Basic Black, Whisper White, Daffodil Delight
Ink: Gray, Basic Black, Daffodil Delight
Stamps: Timeless Textures, Dandelion Dreams and Always Here
Misc: Iridescent Ice ep, Top Note die, Modern Label punch, gemstones, Daffodil Delight ribbon

Wise Men

I am normally not a "gold" person but I loved the inspiration photo from the Christmas Stampin challenge blog for their inspiration challenge #65. I thought my new set Wise Men from Skipping Stones Design would work really well with the colors from the pillow above the nativity in the picture.

I have my layout mimicking the pillow with the green, red and gold layers and some gold embossing on the red. For the bottom portion I used a stamp from Timeless Textures to reflect the swirled portion on the pillow which was also embossed in gold.

Barely Halloween yet and I'm already another Christmas card down...success! ;)

Supplies
CS: Real Red, Garden Green, Whisper White
Ink: Versamark, Basic Black
Stamps: Wise Men and Timeless Textures
Misc: gold ep, Bo Bunny ribbon

Witching You

Loving the Halloweenie set from Skipping Stones Design for all my Halloween cards this year! I seriously cannot believe it is coming up so soon! Still not sure what the kiddos are planning on for their costumes, but I do know one thing for sure....our annual Rock Band Halloween Party will be awesome as usual. ;)

Anyway, here is a little Halloween card made with the sketch at The Sweet Stop and also playing in the Etsy inspired challenge! The featured shop is by Indigotwin and I choose to use this cute little clay ghost sculpture!

And here is my inspired card! The ghost, hat and banner made its way into my design and I love that! Fantastic inspiration!

Supplies
CS: Perfect Plum, Basic Black, Very Vanilla
DSP: Imaginisce
Ink: Basic Black
Stamps: Halloweenie
Misc: Copics, ribbon, DMC floss

Pick Me Up

Love this funny sentiment from the recently released set Bras #2 from Skipping Stones Design! I combined two challenges for this card, the Clean & Simple Sketch #109 and the Crazy 4 Challenges Bling Challenge!

Keeping it very CAS, but I love this little pick me up card and who doesn't love pink bras to remember breast cancer month coming up! :)

Supplies
CS: Pretty in Pink, Pink Pirouette, Basic Black, Whisper White
Ink: Basic Black
Stamp: Bras #2
Misc: clear gems, EK Success scallop punch

Be Prepared...

....because tomorrow I'll be posting lots of cards! We had a super busy day today (American Diabetes walk and the zoo) and all I wanted to do when we came home was to play! :) I did quite a few challenges so I'll be posting multiple times tomorrow to get them all up, so just wanted to warn you!
Hope you are all having a fabulous weekend!

Enjoy all the designs, and make a bid or two! This is a rare opportunity to take home a card/project from your favorite designer, and fight the war against breast cancer!!!

Not only is it a special "bounce", but the "Stamp Tramps" DT is also using the sketch from our Guest Sketch Artist this month, Ashley Cannon Newell. Here is my card up for bids, and the sketch we used - #42!

Below is some info on how to bid, and other ways you can help! After you've placed your bid (remember it all goes to charity!) you can "bounce" on over to the lovely and talented Sharon Harnist!

P.S. - There will be hidden blog candy on the hop so make sure to leave a comment on everyone's blogs!! :)

There are 3 ways that you can help, and join in on the fun!

1. You can help by Shopping!
For every stamp set that you purchase during Sept 15th through the 23rd SSD will donate $2 to the Komen Foundation. Stamping and shopping that you can feel good about ! Skipping Stones Design is celebrating "Blogs 4 Boobies" with the release of two new stamp sets!!! Click here to check out SSD stamps

Bras volume#2 is the follow-up to our #1 selling stamp set Bras Volume #1. These stamps make the perfect "anytime" funny cards for you girlfriends. Or use them for funny birthday, thank you, and cheer up cards. This stamp set turns cardmakers into comedians! A gorgeous new set called Wise Men is also being released! Several stunning images can be combined, to re-create the scene of the first Christmas. The pointillism technique used to illustrate these stamps gives the images extra depth. These stamps will help you make inspirational cards that will be treasured for years to come.

2. You can help by *Biding!
Another way you can help us raise money for the Komen Foundation is to *bid on a project or card along the blog bounce(hop). YES! EVERY Single card/project along the blogs for boobies bounce is up for auction. We recommend a starting bid of $5 or more. Your *Bid not only includes the card or project but shipping to your home as well. Please Note IF you want to bid, and live outside the U.S. we would request that you pay the difference of shipping charges between where you live and what it would cost to ship within the US. * See how to place a bid for more detailed instructions.
If you are the highest bidder September 23rd 8:00 p.m. mountain time then you WIN the card/project that you bid on.

3. You can help by Telling Your Friends!
Help us spread the word about "Blogs 4 Boobies" the more people that know, the more money we can raise!!!

*"How to place a bid on my card/project"
Step #1
Find the comment section of the blog that shows the "Blogs 4 boobies" card or project that you want to buy. *Please note you may only bid on the card/project shown in the specific "blogs 4 boobies" post. *Any bids not placed on the correct post will be considered invalid.
Step #2
Once you are in the "blogs 4 boobies" comment section fill in the dollar and cents amount of what you are willing to pay for the card/project. We recommend a starting bid of $5 or more. Remember your bid includes shipping as well as the card/or project. 100% of the money your bid will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation
Step #3
Next to your $ bid please type in your email address. During a silent auction bidders sign their name next to their bid. typing your email address is the electronic equivalent of signing your bid. Also it will help the blogger contact you if you are the highest bidder.
Step #4
Watch and wait.
Once you have entered your bid/comment sit back and wait. If someone out bids you then you may bid again. Bidding will continue until 8:00 p.m. Mountain time September 23rd

* Please note that the participating stampers/bloggers will probably re-post their Blogs 4 Boobies card/project on the 23rdof September. When the blogger re-post their project then the bidding will continue on the NEWEST post and that comment section.

"What do I do once I place a bid"
Watch and Wait
The "Winner of the Auction" Will be the highest bid (that includes an email address)in the comment section of the MOST RECENT blogs 4 boobies post at the end of the silent auction. Please note that ALL cards/projects WILL BE REPOSTED on the 23rd of September. The silent auction will end at 8:00 p.m. Mountain Time on September 23rd .

Things to keep in mind:
Near the end of the bidding you may not see bids as they come in. Most blog have a comment feature where the blogger must approve comments before they are published. So bid high. You might have the highest bid that is published, but someone might have outbid you in an unpublished comment/bid.
The blogger/designer will declare who has won the silent auction. Skipping Stones Design will send you an invoice for your donation/bid ammount. Please pay that invoice as soon as possible, so the designer can get your card/project in the mail to you.

Hi and Bee Good!

Hi and Bee Good.....what I tell my kids each day. As I'm on a chartered bus Vegas bound today with a bunch of my co-workers I'll probably be saying those words a lot too! ;)
These two simple but fun cards were made with the September Commit 2 Paper kit. I love that these kits can be used for more than layouts, and that you can take your scraps or your extra embellies and make a couple cutie cards out of them!

I think these are the closest I've come to a clean/graphic style so far! On this first card I used the patterned papers, rub-on, trim and thickers from the kit. The only thing I added was the brown cardstock base, and then a border punch. Super quick but lots of fun!

This second one just cracked me up! I love the bee and of course had to do a funny saying with it. I added the rub-on bee to some yellow cardstock, added the thicker letters and some ribbon and then added the whole piece to a brown cardstock base.

I still have 4 more layouts to share with you from this kit and I still have so much leftover! I need some time to get back into it!

Tips & Tricks Thursday!

Hi everyone!

I'm so excited to share the first Skipping Stones Design Tips and Tricks Thursday post with you! Each Thursday our DT Members will be sharing a fun tip, trick, technique, or tutorial post featuring SSD stamps!

Today I'm going to show you how to take the martini glass from Chic Martini to make your own Wine Glass Charms, or in this case Martini Glass Charms!

Start off by rounding up your supplies. You'll need:

  • Shrinky Dink Paper
  • Stazon Ink Pad
  • Bic or Sharpie Markers
  • Hole Punch
  • Wire shapes
  • Beads

I cut out circles from the Shrinky Dink paper to allow for the martini glass to fit in the center of the circle, and then stamped with black Stazon ink.

After all circles had been stamped I used the Bic markers (permanent) to color in the little olives. You could always color in the whole glass, too!

Next, punch out holes where the charm wire will go through. You want to make sure to punch this before you bake the Shrinky Dink paper as it will be a thick and hard plastic after baking.

Now to bake your shapes you'll want to either cover a cookie sheet with a brown paper bag (as recommended by the packaging), or do what I did and use an old pie sheet or other old baking sheet!

To bake the Shrinky Dink paper, pre-heat your oven to 325 degrees and bake for 1-3 minutes. The paper will shrink (hence its name) and the edges will slightly curl. One you remove them from the oven take folded sheets of paper or another flat and semi-hard surface to press the shapes flat.

Once your shapes have cooled off, now you can build your wine/martini glass charms! I ended up using some small beads, the wire circles and pliers to close the other wire end.

Here you can see the charm being built and ready to close the loop.

By fitting the wire through the opening, and then slightly bending it down you create a nice clasp that won't slip out, but is easily taken off your glasses.

I just love how this turned out! It's the perfect way to determine your drink from another person's and can even make a cute fashion accessory to match your outfit!

I love how these four look together and I can't wait to make some more in other colors!

Skipping Stones Design also has a stamp set called Margarita Birthday which has a margarita glass and a wine glass! Chic Martini has a martini glass in addition to a daquiri glass, so the sky is the limit when creating these fun charms for your next party or get together!

Delight - September C2P Layout

I spent Monday working on cards and layouts (what a blissful day inbetween loads of laundry!) and wanted to share one of the layouts I did. I'll share more of these layouts over the next few days. I used the September Commit 2 Paper kit which is absolutely so much fun to work with! The papers and rub-ons in this kits are Glitz Designs and are so cute!

The layout I'm sharing today is one of my favorites from the bunch. Mainly because of the picture. ;)

Brady loves anything to do with trucks, cars, or any of that boy stuff! He loves going to Monster Truck shows (ha I feel so redneck admitting we've been to a handful of them) and the joy on his face when we go just makes me melt. It's so fun when you can take your kiddos to a place they love and see it written across their faces!

Anyway, this photo is from his first truck show. He was so excited and the rub-on "delight" was just so perfect to use with this picture! In this kit there is also a chunky cardboard pack from Bo Bunny, and I stuck three of the circles to the page and then using foam dots raised the picture so it rested evenly on the circles.

I can't wait to share some more of these layouts and the two cards I made with this kit!

SSD Sketch Tuesday - #41!

It's time for another SSD Sketch Tuesday and its a brand new month so we have new guests! We are so very thrilled to have Ashley Cannon Newell as our Guest Sketch Artist this month! We're also so excited to be joined by the Guest DT members - Lea Lawson, Teresa Kline and Sarah Martina Parker! This is our first sketch reveal with the new DT also so its such a fun reveal!

All of our sketches this month are so incredible, and I absolutely loved this first sketch! I loved it so much that I had to make TWO cards! So here is our first sketch for September - #41!

Such a fun sketch right?! I decided to show you how one sketch and one stamp stamp set can be changed around to create a totally different look by only altering a few things! I used Stitched Stamps so you can see how versatile this stamp set really is!

For my first card I used the heart and the "Love you" sentiment to create a fun card for just about anyone!

I started off by dry embossing the red with my Big Shot and a love/valenties impression plate. For the hearts, I started at the bottom and stamped in the lightest pink color and then worked my way up with hearts and darker shades. The sentiment was then stamped, and I hand stitched the word "sew" with some pink embroidery floss. A cute cord button and ribbon finish off this simple card!

For my next card I went in an entirely different direction! I flipped the sketch, changed out the colors, and used the flowers and "Thanks" sentiment.

It was so fun building my own flower garden out of these stitched stamps and using bright springy colors! This really was a quick card because it was mainly stamping and then layering just a couple pieces. Can you believe these two cards were both made with this sketch and Stitched Stamps?! I love when I have a stamp set that can be used for so many different types of cards!

The other DT girls and our guests have some amazing cards to share with you as well so make sure to visit them!

Thinking of You

Ok two posts in one day crazy I know, but I had some time to participate in some challenges which I haven't done in ages! So indulge me with my double posting, haha. ;)

I just posted a card made with one of the fabric flowers my sister Laci made for me out of the fabrics I choose, and now I have a card to share with a flower she'd made awhile back. Imagine my surprise when I found one of them exactly matched the current Embellish Magazine color challenge! The new ones she made me she used her button maker to match the fabric centers, but this one has an actual button which is black - too perfect!

I tried matching the colors as close to the fabric as I could and used Certainly Celery and Perfect Plum. I cased the layout of this card from a card Jen del Muro posted (here) since I wanted to incorporate a round flower but needed squares to match with the challenge requirements. Thanks for the inspiration Jen! I used sets I had already had out on my desk from my last card - Timeless Textures and the sentiment from Always Here both sets by Skipping Stones Design.

I can't wait to share my fabric flower cards with my sister, she'll be so excited! Laci sells these adorable Flower Hair Ties in her Etsy shop.

Have a Beautiful Birthday

So today after starting the unpacking process (10 days for 4 people yields a lot of laundry!) I settled in to spend some time in my craft room!

When I was on vacation I saw the Hair Accessories challenge at EBTKS and wondered what on earth I could use out of Gwynie's hair things that would make a cute card. Then here comes my super crafty younger sister Laci showing me these cute fabric flowers she's been making and it clicked that I could have her make me some to use on a card!

Laci sells these adorable Flower Hair Ties in her Etsy shop and so we set up a trade! HA, I know she would have just made these for me, and I would have just die cut her the snowflakes she wants for Christmas cards, but this made it fair to each of us! ;) I picked out some that she had already made, and then selected some of her fabrics so she made me a handful while we were there as well. Laci said she'll send me some more, yay. So excited for those! I couldn't wait to put one of these darling flowers on a card once I got home!

I combined this challenge with the sketch over at 2S4Y and it was so fun to put it all together!

For the background on the gray paper I stamped one of the images from Timeless Textures in Versamark and heat embossed it in white. The sentiment is from the newly released Always Here both sets by Skipping Stones Design. I used some black satin ribbon to wrap around the top and then looped some behind the flower to mimic petals.

It's so nice to be home but I miss my family like crazy already! My Mom got really sick on the last day we were there so it made it even harder to say goodbye, but they're keeping her comfortable in the hospital so hopefully she is home soon as well. Hope all of you in the US enjoyed your extra day off, I know I needed it! ;)
