Always Here Release Blog Hop!

Welcome to Skipping Stones Design’s Blog Hop to celebrate the release of a new stamp set, Always Here. If you've just happened upon my blog, you're in for a wonderful treat today! I'm the first stop on today's blog hop so grab your coffee and enjoy the hop.

Combined with the blog hop today, it's also Skipping Stones Sketch Tuesday which means the Design Team is showcasing another fabulous sketch from Maren Benedict! We'd love for you to play along with the sketch and link your card at the Skipping Stones Blog. Just remember to use the keywords SSD040 if you are uploading to any online galleries.

This is sadly the last sketch from Maren, but we have loved playing with her sketches each week! This last one I really deviated from the sketch, but I think you can still see how I was inspired by it! :)

As you can see I turned the sketch for starters!

In the sketch the butterflies represent the stars and instead of using a base for the butterflies I left that layer out so I could add the little swirl underneath the butterflies. The swirl is from Well Behaved, and is the perfect addition to the swirly butterflies! Both of the gorgeous butterflies from Always Here are embossed in white. For a finishing touch on the sentiment I stamped the smaller butterfly in VersaMark to add just a subtle touch to tie in with the top portion of the card.

Below is a master list of all our blog hop participants in case the chain is ever broken. Once you make it to the last blog be sure to head back to Skipping Stones Design so you can link up your card based on this sketch!

I have TWO Skipping Stones Design sets to give away today, so that means we will have TWO lucky winners! I'm keeping the sets a secret but I know you will LOVE them! Please leave a comment (maybe tell me what set you are burning to have and would love to win!) to be entered for a chance to win a set! I'll be announcing my winners on Friday 9/3!

I now have the pleasure of sending you to Kryssi Ng! Kryssi did the font work on all of the sentiments in Always Here and I'm so glad she is participating with us! I'm sure you'll agree that the fonts she used are simply gorgeous and you'll absolutely love stamping with them!

Book review projects...

I did a review for a book, The Scrapbook Embellishment Handbook that went on the Craft Critique blog over the weekend and wanted to share the projects I created. For more info on each, you can read my article here.

Reporter Call (& a Shark!)

Tomorrow is the deadline for submitting to become a reporter for Craft Critique! If you have ever thought about reviewing the products you love and use then now is your chance!

In other fun news I just had to share what Jake and Brady were up to today! They went out with my Dad, Uncle, and brother-in-law Josh on Mom and Dad's boat and went fishing out in the Gulf of Mexico! The guys have been catching baby sharks (3 feet) the past few weekends and Brady has been so excited to catch a real shark! The kid is fascinated by everything (I'm not kidding - he's 7 and watches the History Channel over cartoons!) and is of course super fascinated with sharks. Brady was the only one to catch a shark this time (all by himself too!!) and I was so glad that he did! We never would have heard the end of it if he didn't! ;)

Florida!

Mojo...hoping to be recovered while I lounge on the beach! ;)

A few weeks ago I lost some loved ones (you can read about it here, here and here) so I really haven't had any "mojo" so to speak since the end of July. Thanks so much for all of your kind words during that hard time. I really, truly appreciated it then and still do now. My Aunt has been updating their journal/blog which is so nice to keep up on them and how they're doing. My friend has her ups and downs but I am so grateful to have her in my life and continue to hope for her each day.

So........here I am in Florida, with no crafty supplies and I'm itching to play...go figure! ;) I really think I needed some R&R and I am so excited to get back to stamping! I felt like I've had to force anything I've been working on recently so it will be nice to get back to the love of stamping, you know what I mean?

I hope you are having a fabulous Friday and have some super fun plans for the weekend! Definitely looking forward to getting inky again!

Hold Together Layout

One of the challenges at Soul Scrappers is a "scrap my scraps" challenge. The theme was love and the lovely hostess sent us all the same items to use on a page and we would be judged based on the number of items used, overall design, etc. I have not had the crafty mojo lately, but did manage to get this page done before the deadline. I used one of the pics we had taken recently and love how the word strips came out on the page. I used almost all of the embellies we were sent and had fun with this challenge!

Musical Butterflies

Hi everyone! It's Tuesday and that means its time for another SSD Sketch Challenge with the Stamp Tramps of Skipping Stones Design! We are so excited to have the talented Maren Benedict join us this whole month as our Guest Sketch Artist!

Here is our fourth sketch for August - #39!

I absolutely loved this sketch and turned to (of course) Timeless Textures for the background. I cannot stop using this set it is love, pure love I tell ya! Sorry about the lighting! I broke one of the bulbs for my photo tent lights and with our looming vacation I haven't had a chance to replace it yet.

I paired Timeless Textures with the butterflies from Healing Wings. I sponged and distressed the edges of all the pieces, except for the butterfly that is popped up. I took an exacto knife and cut around the butterfly so the background would show through more and so it would look like the butterfly was flying off the page. ;) It definitely didn't turn out exactly as planned, but I still like the idea will just need to improve on it. Before I attached the main panel to the yellow base I cut out a square from it so the background would still show through.

Supplies
CS: Chocolate Chip, Daffodil Delight, Very Vanilla
Ink: Chocolate Chip, Daffodil Delight
Stamp: Timeless Textures and Healing Wings
Misc: Daffodil Delight ribbon

Be sure to check out the other "Stamp Tramps" and our guest sketch artist to see what they've come up with!

Sneak Peek - Always Here

I have some sneak peeks to share with you of a stamp set being released next week from Skipping Stones Design! It is called Always Here and has gorgeous sentiments along with some beautiful and elegant butterflies!

We'll be having a DT and Guests Blog Hop to release this gorgeous set on the 31st. Now, my set may or may not make it to me, and here's why....we're headed to Florida for a vacation this Thursday! We had tried keeping it a secret but thanks to my "public" gmail calendar I'd shared with my sister last year she found out and blabbed. I don't think my Mom could have held it in any longer though so it's alright. ;) So, if my stamps don't make it here by Wednesday I'll still make a card for the sketch it just might not feature Always Here. I will definitely make it a point to use that set a ton when I get home though! ;)

We leave on Thursday 8/26 and will be home on Sunday 9/5. We have the day off Monday for Labor Day so we're planning on using that day for some R&R after our trip! I've been crazy busy these last few weeks with work stuff and a ton of after work (but work related) things we've been doing (Corporate Games, company Softball Team, company Kickball Team) so I haven't had a chance to stamp or scrapbook like I normally do. So, my blog as inconsistent as it has been this summer, may just have to suffer a couple more weeks before I'm back on a normal posting schedule. ;)
Alright, enough rambling from me! Just a heads up that I'll be out of town, but I will still be available via email and I'll try whipping up a few things to go on the blog while I'm gone. Make sure to stop back tomorrow for another fabulous SSD Sketch Tuesday post!

The Scrapbook Embellishment Handbook - review

Yesterday my article went up at Craft Critique for the book review of The Scrapbook Embellishment Handbook. You can read my article here! It was a great book to review and gave me some really great ideas for using those common things in my stash like stickers, brads and letters! There are three projects within the article that I'll share here later this week.

Also, there is a current call for reporters so if you've ever thought you would love to review and write about crafty products, now is your chance!

Two for Tuesday

Hi everyone! It's Tuesday and that means its time for another SSD Sketch Challenge with the Stamp Tramps of Skipping Stones Design! We are so excited to have the talented Maren Benedict join us this whole month as our Guest Sketch Artist!

Here is our third sketch for August - #38! Don't you just love this fun collage-y look for the sketch? I deviated a bit from the sketch on my first card....
I used Cupcake Cutie for the main cupcake image and frosting, and then the sentiment is from Birthday Donuts. I LOVE that so many of the SSD sets can be interchangeable like that! The frosting was outlined with a glue pen and then dazzling diamonds glitter was sprinkled over top. The banner is popped up with dimensionals and is rolled a little bit to look like a real banner. Since I did such a girly pink card that deviated from the sketch, I decided I better do a second card! ;)

This card uses Timeless Textures (muscial background) and Dandelion Dreams (flowers and sentiment) for a softer and subdued look. I stamped right on the twill for the sentimet and then secured both ends with brads before adhering to my card with glue dots. Now, I'm not a vintage or shabby chic cardmaker at all, so this is probably as close as I might get, ha!

I apologize my blog has been getting neglected this summer! :( Once things wind down after August I'll have more time to devote to my cards and layouts which I am throughoughly looking forward to! I have some fun plans for the blog-o and can't wait to share! :)

Wishing you

Anniverysary and 10 Year Reunion...

Today is my 9 year wedding anniversary, and this weekend also marks my 10 year high school reunion...crazy on both accounts! I spent a lot of time this weekend reflecting on life in general and as my outlet so comes the post on my blog. ;)
It's amazing to me that so much time has flown by. On one hand it feels like Jake and I have been together forever, that there was never a time we weren't together....that such a time where "us" as a couple didn't exist is unfathomable and unthinkable. It feels like yesterday I met Jake, yet I have years of memories stored that I can reflect and savor at any moment.
My reunion...well I won't be attending (prior commitments), but we have all been asked to send in a few photographs and a short paragraph of what we have been up to since high school for a slide show.
This prompted me to ask myself...what have I been up to?! I'm not super successful in a crazy or cool career (Lawyer, Doctor, Bunjee Jumper Instructor, Lion Tamer, etc.), but I love my job and the company I work for. How many people can say their company has a 2010 Porsche Cayman that is the Employee of the Month car, or that they are the face of their company and can name almost every single one of the 300 employees?! ;)
Then I reflected on my family. And what an amazing family I have! Jake is amazing, I couldn't ask for a better friend or husband. We really are best friends and there is no one I'd rather spend the rest of my life with, growing old together and reminiscing on days past, than him. My kids are more than I could ask or hope for. I cannot even begin to tell you how much joy and laughter these kiddos bring into our lives! Sure they can bring some irritation (ha) and all those other downsides of raising kids (ha), but I could never ask for better kids and I absolutely love being their Mother.
Finally, I reflected on my passion, my hobby. I decided I had to include some of my crafty endeavors in my little bio for my school reunion thing because that embodies who I am, a part of me. As much as my family and my career define me, so too does this hobby.
Although I may not have traveled the world, moved up the corporate ladder, invented something, or started my own business, I know that I've accomplished many things in the last 10 years, and I'm happy with the person I am today. If I had a chance to give my 18 year old self some advice it would be this.....
Enjoy each and every day and live life to the fullest.
Luckily, I think I have done just that, and will continue to embody that life motto. I have cried hard and laughed harder. I have greived and I have loved. I have hungered and thirsted for more in life, and then I have gorged on the buffet life prepared and presented me. I love the adventure life has given me and I only look forward with optimism and excitement for the next 10 years!

Family Pics

So we got the cd of our family pics yesterday and I thought I would share some of our favorites! We already have an 8x10 back from the photographer and it looks spectacular! So excited for these!

Mental note to self: even though it was blazing hot...next time wear a black camisole since the white one apparently showed through, ha!

PS - that second one? Totally.my.kids. She completely captured their personalities! I can hear their laughs and giggles, their jokes and taunts, and everything else that makes up these two from just one glimpse of this photo. And then there's Jake and I in the background looking at the kids and wondering how in the world we got so lucky to have such amazingly wonderful, cute, funny, crazy and happy children. :) Just looking at this photo makes me want to just squish and squeeze them tight in their cute little embrace! Gosh, I sure do love these guys! ;) Also, you can see their matching dimples if you look close enough - left side, same spots. :)

Swanky!

Hi everyone! It's Tuesday and that means its time for another SSD Sketch Challenge with the Stamp Tramps of Skipping Stones Design! We are so excited to have the talented Maren Benedict join us this whole month as our Guest Sketch Artist!

Here is our second sketch for August!

I pulled out my Chic Martini and Timeless Textures sets for this funky and retro card! The paper by Basic Grey really worked well with the olives so I had to use it for this card! I stamped them all in Old Olive and then went back in with a yellow Copic to color the centers. I used VersaMark for the stamped texture background so it wasn't as bright, but to give just a subtle layer to the card.

Skipping Stones Design is having a DT Call until 8/14, so be sure to check out SCS for our post on how to apply and the requirements!

Timeless Textures

I've saved this card for awhile because of everything going on lately so it's nice to finally share! I absolutely love this new set released by Skipping Stones Design called Timeless Textures. I've used each of the three different stamps in this set to show you how fun it is to mix and match!

Using my Big Shot, I cut out the butterflies and the top note die, and dressed them up with the stamps in this set. I love the elegant look this conveys with a very simple layout and some fun colors! Tomorrow I'll be back with a new SSD Sketch card and you don't want to miss this sketch by the amazing Maren, our guest sketch artist this month!

As a reminder, Skipping Stones Design is having a DT Call! You can check out the requirements on SplitCoast where it's posted, or here at Scrapbook Calls.

Quick Update

I wanted to share a link that my Aunt and family have been updating with progress on my cousins after the tragic car accident last week that claimed the life of my cousin Whitney.
It's amazing to me that a week ago at this time I was in Colorado Springs going between two different hospitals, feeling so much pain and anguish, and trying to comfort the family members around me. I now wake up every morning and thank heaven for my kiddos, my incredible husband, and my amazing family members.
Yesterday was the funeral service, and although we didn't get to attend, I know it was a beautiful service. Reading the Guest Book from their blog touches my heart and those "good/happy tears" slide down my checks and make my throat ache.

Family Photos

So last week was hectic and sad, but then I came home to my family and our company party and the start of Corporate Games (so much more on that later!). One of the cool things we had at the company party (Jake and I work together, sweet huh?) was photographers to do family portraits. We'll be getting copyright releases so we can have these printed and I am so stoked!! We had some great shots, wish we would have done more (haha) and some individuals of the kids, but I love them!! Below is a link to a video Emilie our photographer put together of some of the families. She did them alphabetically, so we are around the 1:58 to the 2:12 mark. I cannot wait for two more weeks to get the cd's so I can print a ton of these up for our families! So stinkin excited for these! I do have my favorites, but I'll let you guess which ones those are. ;)

Sadness Flies Away...

Hi everyone! It's Tuesday and that means its time for another SSD Sketch Challenge with the Stamp Tramps of Skipping Stones Design! It's the beginning of a new month so its time to reveal our new Guest Sketch Artist for August! We are so excited to have the talented Maren Benedict join us this month!

Here is our first sketch by the amazing Maren!

This one was really tough one for me! No creative juices were flowing this weekend for obvious reasons, but I knew if I kept it simple then I would be happier with it. Definitely not my favorite or best card so far (haha), but not the worst either. ;)

I did manage to combine three different Skipping Stones Design sets:

Hills and butterflies: Dandelion Dreams
Sentiment: Healing Wings
Sun: Garden Stamp Kiss

I know just the person this is going to.

FYI - BIG NEWS!!! We have recently had some of our DT members step down after their 6 month commitment, and SSD is looking for a few new Stamp Tramps! The DT Call is up at SplitCoast, you can find it here!! (Will be required to login on SCS)

Be sure to check out the other "Stamp Tramps" and our guest sketch artist to see what they've come up with!
